Short version: what you send goes to Tom, and nowhere else.

The enquiry form

When you use the form on the book a lesson page, what you type is emailed to Tom and recorded in a log on the web server so that an enquiry is not lost if the email fails. That is the whole of it. It is not passed to anyone else, it is not added to a mailing list, and there is no mailing list to add it to.

Your message is kept for as long as it is useful — an ongoing conversation about lessons, or a record of a student — and deleted when it is not. If you would like your enquiry deleted, email tomashtonmusic@googlemail.com and it will be.

Spam filtering

The form runs an automated check for marketing spam before the message is sent on. It looks only at the words in the message and at your email address, it happens on this server, and nothing is sent anywhere else to do it.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies. There is no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no advertising tag, and no third-party script of any kind — which is also why there is no cookie banner to click through.

The web server keeps ordinary access logs, as every web server does: the page requested, the time, the browser, and the IP address it came from. They are used to see whether the site is working and to spot attacks, and nothing else.

The free tools

The tuner, metronome and trainers run entirely in your browser. The tuner asks for the microphone because it has to listen to your instrument to tell you the note — the audio is analysed on your device as it arrives and is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. Nothing leaves your phone or computer. Any settings you change are remembered in your own browser's storage and can be cleared with the rest of your browsing data.

Children

Many of Tom’s students are children. Enquiries about a child should be made by a parent or guardian, and the form asks for the adult's contact details rather than the child's on purpose.

Who to ask

The site and the enquiry form are run by Tom Ashton, Thames Ditton, Surrey. For anything on this page, email tomashtonmusic@googlemail.com.

If you are not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
